Pat
Quite the women, funny first, sweet second and a very hard-worker. Pat was my first boss for my first job. She was a jolly woman, short and round and a wonderful baker.
She was also the best friend to the woman who would be my mother-in-law. Pat liked to make work fun. She was not above food fights. A handful of jelly flung at a smart comment made by a co-worker. She tossed a handful of glaze at you if you made her mad. Let me tell you, glaze cuts like a knife. A playful handful of flour tossed in the face of her friend. She was a delight to work with.
Pat was also a strong woman. Having two teenage children and approaching fifty she had thought she was battling a tumor in her stomach. Then lo and behold she found out that tumor was an oops slip, menopause baby. Pat handled it with grace, eventually giving birth to a healthy baby boy.
I thought of Pat like a dear Aunt, of which I had many. She was a pseudo Aunt to my eventual husband. I can honestly say I loved Pat dearly and thought of her as much more than my first boss. She was one of the kindest women I ever met. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone.
Pat, wherever you are, may God always keep you smiling!
