Celebrating Dante: A Quirky Tribute to an FBI Bound Friend

Dante’

I think I only worked with Dante’ for a year, if that. So why do I remember him at all?  Dante’ was handsome, not the quintessential handsome but the quirky best friend handsome. He maybe was 5’10’, with sandy-brown, wiry hair.  He was quiet and one of the few men that worked in a department of ten women over the years.

Dante’ will forever be in my memory. It’s not only because of his name. How many people do you meet named Dante’?  But Dante’ left our place of employment to join the FBI.  I wonder if he is still with the agency from time to time.

I especially remember his going away party. My husband had received a box of old clothes from his Grandmother when his Step-Grandpa had passed away. The clothes had no real meaning or value. But in that box was a London Fog Rain Coat. The perfect looking FBI Agent jacket, right out of the movies.  I found a man’s fedora hat to match at the salvation army and the perfect pair of dark sunglasses.

The send-off for Dante’s was a hoot. I have always enjoyed celebrating the wins of others. Dante’ may not ever think of me personally. However, I do hope he remembered the ten crazy ladies. We sent him off to his FBI career with heartfelt intentions.

No matter how short or how long you know someone. There is always an opportunity to connect and appreciate what everyday people bring to this world.
