Kathy
A friend an employee. I admired Kathy for her strength. She was not without her struggles. Kathy was married to man with a cocaine addiction. Her life was a constant struggle. They had a young daughter when I knew them, maybe five or six. Kathy married and divorced the same man at least twice.
I don’t want to define Kathy by just her circumstances. She was tall and beautiful in her own way. She had an awkward nose and deep-set brown eyes. She would get up at 5 am to put on her make-up. It was a lot of eye shadow and blush. She did this so her husband would never see her without make-up. She was very self-conscious. I thought she was beautiful. She had a kind spirit and a great sense of humor. Her undying love for a troubled man may have been her best and worst feature.
I knew Kathy for about 6 years. Five of which we worked together and another for which we stayed in contact from time to time. I unfortunately recall one of the last visits being her husband’s funeral. He ended up committing suicide in his thirties, in their garage. He may have been her ex again at that time. I think they were trying to reunite for the third time. His demons were just too much.
I wonder where Kathy is now. I hope she found a new, stronger love. I hope her daughter appreciated her mother’s undying commitment to build a home and family for her. Kathy was truly an unsung hero in my book. Godspeed Kathy!
